CERTIFICATIONS &

ASSOCIATIONS

We are actively working with our local community to give you better service and support.

MINNESOTA GROWN CERTIFIED

We have contributed to the program for many years and are active members. Through our CSA Share program, we helped to create a bridge for MN Breweries who use local ingredients to be MN Grown certified!

We also helped encourage expansion of their online CSA Pick-up Site search engine. We are so happy to see this resource continue to develop and grow, as it benefits everyone in the community.

SUSTAINABLE FARMING ASSOCIATION

Participating in the SFA is a pleasure as they provide many farmer education opportunities surrounding soil health, post-harvest practices and many specialty workshops.

Every year we enjoy attending the SFA Annual Conference and networking with farmer-colleagues while learning!

This spring we are excited to go to the Midwest Soil Health Summit (which is organized by the SFA) in March 2019. Photos to come!

second harvest heartland

We are donating partners to the Second Harvest Heartland program called “Farm to Food shelf". This is a nationwide effort to make the connection between the farmers and potential consumers. They are unique because they drive trucks around and collect donations throughout the metro. In the hustle & bustle of the season we really appreciate the convenience they offer us.

In Minnesota, they collect fresh produce from farmers like us and deliver it to a central food bank, where it is distributed throughout our entire state's food shelf system.

big lake food shelf

We donate produce to the Food Shelf all season long. When CSA Share members are out of town, they have the option of donating their share directly to the food shelf that week.

We delivered 32 CSA Shares to the food shelf in the 2018 season in addition to our usual amount of surplus produce.

ELK RIVER AREA
FOOD CO-OP

We have been Members of the ERA Food Co-op for years. They are a start up co-op in our area and we support them and their mission to provide locally grown fresh produce to families in our community. They are still in the process of gathering more members before they can open their doors.

There was a project in 2018 to raise awareness and memberships. We donated tomato & cucumber plants to the co-op so they could place these mobile "gardens" around town offering for anyone who passed by to pick something to eat.

LAKES & LEGENDS BREWING COMPANY

These guys are committed to connecting the neighborhood with fresh produce, in more than one way. We've been partners with them in offering our CSA Shares in the Taproom for years.

We've also been involved in a few farm to table brews including their famous "Rhu-Berry"brew that won several awards, the Sweet Potato inspired beer "Root Down", and many other special releases and infusions.

Looking forward to what they come up with next!

SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT

We have been working with the local SWCD, learning about their cover crop programs and following their recommendations for the greatest soil health.

We are currently working with the SWCD to finalize our Water Quality Certification. More on this soon!

LAND STEWARDSHIP PROJECT

The Land Stewardship Project (LSP) is a private, nonprofit organization founded in 1982 to foster an ethic of stewardship for farmland, to promote sustainable agriculture and to develop healthy communities.

They have many different beginning farmer programs that we have participated in the past and have found their resources very valuable!
